On Saturday June 6th 2026 the North Channel Métis Council Women's Rep Norine Malloy hosted a Healing Blanket Workshop at the Council office.

The healing blanket symbolizes the healing process by wrapping strength, support and comfort around the recipient in their times of struggle and need. During the workshop attendees wrote inspiring messages and drew healing inspired images inside the blanket, and worked together to tie the blanket together. Just before they tied the last knot a bag of sage, tobacco, sweetgrass and cedar was tied into the blanket.
One of the attendees was North Channel citizen Carol who attended the event with her sister and niece. Once completed, the blanket was presented to Carol by Norine. The blanket symbolizes a “blanket of care” which serves as a reminder that women are important, cared for and loved within the Métis Nation.
