International Indigenous Tourism Conference

Regional Councilor Mitch Case and Manager of Events & Strategic Initiatives Jennifer Pauzé were proud to attend the International Indigenous Tourism Conference in Edmonton this week.

The gathering brought together Indigenous tourism leaders from around to share ideas, build partnerships, and explore innovative approaches to growing sustainable, culture-based tourism.

The conference also celebrated vibrant Métis culture, featuring an inspiring performance by Métis fiddler Brianna Lizotte and the energetic Kikino Northern Lights Métis Dancers, reminding attendees that music, dance, and storytelling remain at the heart of Métis tourism and cultural expression. Sessions also highlighted the incredible work of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government in developing Métis Crossing into the premier Métis tourism destination and a globally recognized model for cultural tourism grounded in Métis identity, history, and community leadership.

Mitch and Jennifer are inspired with new skills and strategies to support the continued growth of:

• the Sault Ste. Marie Métis Heritage Centre

• Métis Tours

• the Powley Institute Auditorium

• upcoming tourism initiatives and partnerships across the MNO

Investing in Indigenous tourism strengthens our communities, creates opportunities for citizens, and ensures Métis history, culture, and stories are shared with authenticity and pride.

We look forward to putting these ideas into action and continuing to grow Métis tourism across the homeland.
