Regional Councillor Mitch Case attended the 8th Annual Alberta Métis Fest, joining Métis citizens, families, friends, relatives, and allies from across the Homeland for a celebration of Métis culture, community, and connection.
Held on the banks of the North Saskatchewan River at Métis Crossing, Alberta’s premier Indigenous tourism destination, the gathering brought people together through Métis music, food, dance, stories, games, and laughter. The festival created a welcoming space for Métis citizens from across the Homeland to visit with one another, renew relationships, and celebrate the strength and vibrancy of Métis culture.
Throughout the gathering, participants enjoyed Métis fiddling, jigging, square dancing, traditional games, shared meals, and storytelling. The sounds of the fiddle, the rhythm of dancing feet, and the laughter of families and friends reflected the deep spirit of kinship that continues to connect Métis communities across generations and across the Homeland.
For Regional Councillor Case, the festival was also an important opportunity to connect with Métis friends and relatives in Alberta, to show support for the Alberta Métis community, and to share the history and stories of Métis communities in Ontario. These moments of exchange help strengthen relationships between Métis communities and create opportunities to learn from one another’s experiences, histories, and ongoing work.
The 8th Annual Alberta Métis Fest highlighted the importance of gathering together as Métis people: to celebrate who we are, to honour where we come from, and to build relationships that support the future of our Nation. From music and food to stories and laughter, the festival reflected the living culture, resilience, and joy of the Métis people.
Regional Councillor Case’s participation underscored the importance of maintaining strong connections across the Métis Homeland and standing in friendship and solidarity with Métis governments, communities, and citizens throughout the Nation.
